Single-brand cards such as Amazon.com, DoorDash, and Google Play state in their US terms that card fees do not apply, while traditional Visa gift cards commonly add a purchase or activation fee of about $3 to $7 per card. Giftronaut’s US and Canada Prepaid Visa cards have no activation fee.
No-fee gift cards let you give someone useful spending value without the activation or ongoing charges associated with some cards. The right choice depends on where the recipient shops and which fees the specific card waives; your payment method and spending currency can still affect the total cost.
Which no-fee gift cards fit your recipients?
Start with what the recipient would actually use. A card with no activation fee still misses the point if it is for the wrong country or a store they never visit.
These ten options cover recipient choice, everyday shopping, meals, and digital purchases. The list is organized by use rather than ranked from best to worst. The US and Canada Prepaid Visa cards are separate products because they use different currencies and work in different countries.

| 9. Google Play | Eligible Android apps and digital content | Country and currency must match |
| 10. Apple Gift Card | Apple products and digital purchases | Match the recipient’s Apple Account country |

1. Giftronaut Choice Card
Choose this when you know the reward amount but do not want to choose everyone’s brand. Each recipient selects from the brands available for their country, whether they prefer groceries, a meal, or a digital purchase.
The Giftronaut Choice Card connects recipients to 4,300+ brands across 225 countries. Standard gift cards carry no recipient redemption fee. Optional Payout Options and spending fees on some prepaid cards are separate, so the selected reward still matters.
2. US Prepaid Visa
This is an option for someone who wants to choose the merchant rather than receive a single-store card. Through Giftronaut, the US Prepaid Visa has no activation, redemption, monthly maintenance, or inactivity fee.
It is issued in USD and works only within the United States. It expires six months after issuance, so it suits a reward someone plans to spend rather than save indefinitely. The Visa fee guide explains these conditions.
3. Canada Prepaid Visa
For a Canadian recipient spending in Canada, choose the Canadian product. It is issued in CAD and carries the same activation, redemption, monthly, and inactivity fee waivers as Giftronaut’s US option.
The distinction is practical: sending a US card to someone in Canada does not turn it into a Canadian card. The Canada Prepaid Visa works only in Canada and also expires six months after issuance. Our no-fee Visa comparison puts the options side by side.
4. Global Visa Reward Card
Consider this when the recipient needs broader international merchant acceptance. It is issued in USD, with no issuance, monthly, or inactivity fee, and no fee on purchases in USD.
The spending currency makes the difference: non-USD purchases incur a 3% international transaction fee plus a 3% foreign-exchange fee, totaling 6%. It is valid for six months and has country restrictions. If the recipient mainly shops in local currency, compare a local brand card first. See our international e-gift card options.
5. Amazon.com Gift Card
For someone who already shops on Amazon.com, this leaves the purchase decision to them without requiring you to choose a product. Amazon’s US terms state that fees do not apply and that eligible gift card balances do not expire.
Choose the correct country version. An Amazon.com card does not work on Amazon.co.uk, even though both sites carry the same brand name.
6. Walmart Gift Card
Walmart is an option for recipients who would use a reward for groceries or household purchases. That can make it a practical employee thank-you without tying the gift to a particular hobby.
For a US recipient, choose the US product. Walmart’s terms state that gift cards do not expire and are not returnable or refundable. Giftronaut does not charge recipients a fee to redeem standard brand gift cards.
7. Target GiftCard
Target gives a US recipient a choice across home goods, clothing, and everyday purchases. It works well when you know they use Target but want them to choose the item.
Target’s GiftCard guidance says its cards do not expire or lose value over time. Recipients need a Target account to access and use an emailed card, so it is worth considering whether they already shop there.
8. DoorDash Gift Card
A meal reward can turn a thank-you into something the recipient uses during their week. DoorDash is an option for a remote-team lunch or a thank-you after a busy project, provided delivery is available where the recipient lives.
DoorDash’s US gift card terms state that fees do not apply. Choose the country-specific product, and remember that the gift card funds an order; it does not remove any delivery or service charges on that order.
9. Google Play Gift Card
Choose Google Play for someone who uses Android apps or buys eligible digital content. It is a more focused gift than a general shopping card, so knowing the recipient’s preferences matters.
The US Google Play terms state that fees and expiration dates do not apply. The card must match the recipient’s country and currency, and it cannot buy every item or subscription offered by Google.
10. Apple Gift Card
An Apple Gift Card suits someone who already buys Apple products, apps, or subscriptions. It gives them a choice within an ecosystem they use rather than another account to manage.
Match the card to their Apple Account country. Apple’s US terms restrict US cards to US accounts and purchases. The standard gift card has no recipient redemption fee through Giftronaut; a foreign-country card is not a workaround for regional restrictions.
What costs should you check before sending?
Check the sender’s payment cost separately from the recipient’s card terms. They affect different people at different stages.
- Funding: Giftronaut charges 3% when you add funds by credit card, and no funding fee for ACH or wire.
- Buying a traditional card: Purchase or activation fees on traditional Visa gift cards are usually charged per card at checkout. A $5 fee on each of 100 cards adds $500 without adding value for recipients.
- Using the card: Some prepaid products charge for non-USD transactions. A card with no activation fee can still have these spending charges.
- Optional payouts: If you enable Payout Options, a redemption fee applies according to who covers it. Standard gift cards and payouts are different choices.
For example, the 3% processing fee on a $5,000 credit card deposit is $150. That is a sender funding cost, not a deduction from each recipient’s gift card. This is an illustrative calculation based on our funding policy.
Sending no-fee gift cards to employees or customers
For a group, make two decisions before ordering: whether everyone needs the same brand and whether the reward works in each recipient’s country. If preferences vary, a Choice Card lets each recipient choose from the brands available in their country; if one brand fits everyone, a Branded Gift Card works.
We support individual and bulk orders, including spreadsheet uploads with different reward amounts. There are no platform fees, contracts, or subscriptions. Details are on our pricing page.
If you are choosing the platform as well as the cards, our corporate rewards cost guide covers the wider budget decision. Keep the gift message specific to the occasion rather than making the recipient work out why it arrived.
Pick a card they will use
Choose a local brand card when you know the recipient’s preference, a local prepaid card for broader merchant choice, or a Choice Card when preferences vary. Then confirm the country, validity, and relevant fees. The useful gift is the one they can spend on something they want.
Let Recipients Pick Their Brand
Set one reward amount and each recipient chooses from the brands available in their country.

Frequently Asked Questions
What gift cards don’t charge a fee?
Several single-brand cards, including Amazon.com, DoorDash, and Google Play, state in their US terms that card fees do not apply. Giftronaut’s US and Canada Prepaid Visa cards also waive activation, monthly, and inactivity fees; separate funding or spending conditions can still apply.
Are no-fee gift cards free of every possible charge?
No. A fee waiver applies to the charges named in the card’s terms. Sender funding fees, prepaid-card foreign transaction fees, and optional Payout Option fees need to be checked separately.
Can I buy Visa gift cards without an activation fee?
Yes. Giftronaut’s US and Canada Prepaid Visa cards have no activation fee. Each works only in its own country, and credit card funding carries a separate 3% sender processing fee.
Do Amazon.com gift cards have an activation fee?
No. Amazon’s US terms state that fees do not apply to Amazon.com Gift Cards. Use the correct country-specific Amazon product for the recipient.
Can I send no-fee gift cards by email?
Yes. Giftronaut delivers rewards by email, so there is no physical shipping charge. The recipient follows the link to claim the gift card and see its instructions.
Which option lets employees choose their own no-fee gift card?
A Giftronaut Choice Card lets employees choose from the brands available in their country. Standard brand gift cards have no recipient redemption fee; optional Payout Options and prepaid-card spending fees have separate conditions.
Can I order no-fee gift cards in bulk with different amounts?
Yes. Giftronaut supports spreadsheet uploads with a different amount for each recipient. Each amount must fit the selected product’s limits, and the funding method determines whether a credit card processing fee applies.
