Businesses can offer PayPal or Venmo alongside gift cards when the reward program needs a cash-style redemption option. Giftronaut allows Cash Options inside a Choice Card catalog and also supports direct Cash Option delivery through a Branded Card order, with different fee handling depending on who pays the cash-out cost.
Can employee rewards go to PayPal or Venmo?
Yes. Giftronaut’s Cash Options let eligible recipients redeem a Choice Card balance to PayPal or Venmo instead of selecting a retailer brand. Cash Options can also be sent directly through a Branded Card order.
The sender can add the cash-out fee to the order total or have it deducted from the recipient’s redemption amount. Current published terms show a 4% sender-paid fee or a 6% recipient-paid fee, with recipient-paid selected by default. Confirm the portal setting and checkout total before funding the campaign.
When to offer cash options
PayPal or Venmo can be useful when:
- employees or participants prefer a cash-style reward;
- one retailer brand will not work for the full audience;
- a campaign needs both brand choice and a wallet option;
- the recipient population is primarily in markets supported by the selected cash service;
- the company accepts the applicable cash-out fee.
Cash Options are not automatically the best fit for every program. Check recipient eligibility, geography, company policy, tax treatment, and the total delivered value before enabling them.
Choice Card, Cash Option, or prepaid card?
Choice Card with brand selection
A Choice Card lets recipients choose an eligible retailer or other available option from the catalog configured for the campaign. This is useful when the company wants broad choice without requiring a cash-style payout.
Choice Card with PayPal or Venmo enabled
Add Cash Options when recipients should be able to choose between the available brand catalog and PayPal or Venmo. Decide in advance whether the company or recipient pays the fee, and make that choice clear in the reward policy.
Direct Cash Option through a Branded Card order
Use a direct option when the campaign is specifically intended for PayPal or Venmo rather than an open catalog. Confirm the service, recipient eligibility, fee treatment, and delivery process before sending.
Prepaid card
A prepaid card is a separate product decision. It can provide card-network utility without sending funds to a PayPal or Venmo account. Compare acceptance, country availability, wallet compatibility, fees, and expiration terms against the needs of the campaign.
Calculate the delivered value before launch
Fee ownership changes the employee experience. If the company pays a 4% fee, a $100 reward requires a higher order total while the recipient receives the intended $100 cash-out value. If the recipient pays a 6% fee, the fee is deducted from the redemption amount.
Document which party pays and show the decision in the campaign approval. Finance should reconcile the reward face value and fee as separate amounts.
Buyer checklist
- Define whether the program promises a brand choice, cash-style option, or specific prepaid product.
- Confirm that PayPal or Venmo is appropriate for the recipient population.
- Choose whether the sender or recipient pays the cash-out fee.
- Review the total funded amount and delivered value.
- Confirm country, currency, and recipient eligibility.
- Configure the Choice Card catalog or direct Branded Card option.
- Test the recipient experience with an internal account.
- Document support and exception handling.
- Retain the order and fee records for reconciliation.
How quickly can rewards be delivered?
Digital rewards can be delivered immediately, scheduled, or triggered through Zapier and the Gift Card API. Match the delivery method to the program: immediate for spot recognition, scheduled for milestones, and event-triggered for survey, referral, or workflow automation.
Give recipients useful choice without hiding the trade-off
PayPal and Venmo expand redemption choice, but the cash-out fee and recipient eligibility need to be part of the buying decision. Configure the catalog intentionally, state who pays the fee, and test the full recipient flow before enabling Cash Options for a large campaign.
Our mission is to make every gift a memorable one, ensuring that it resonates personally with the recipient.
